Iranian President’s Copter Makes Difficult Landing: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi confirmed on Sunday that a helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi has suffered a hard landing in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan.

Speaking to state TV by telephone, Vahidi said the president was returning to Tehran after inaugurating the Qiz-Qalasi dam at the common border with the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The president and his entourage were on board a number of helicopters when one of the choppers was forced to make a hard landing due to poor weather conditions in the region, he said.

The interior minister noted that the rescue teams have been deployed to the area, adding that foggy weather and the difficult terrain in the area may take them longer to reach the accident scene.

Vahidi said contacts have been made with the president’s entourage, but the complicated geographical conditions have hampered communication.
