Persepolis Earns Hard-Fought Win over Mes to Win IPL
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Persepolis football team earned a late win over Mes Rafsanjan to win the 2023-24 Iran Professional League (IPL) title for the ninth time on Saturday.
With four minutes remaining, Persepolis' Georgian defender Giorgi Gvelesiani scored the winner with a header in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
In Tehran’s Dastgerdi Stadium, Esteghlal defeated struggling team Paykan 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Mehrdad Mohammadi in the first half.
Esteghlal came second with 67 points, a point behind champion Persepolis.
Persepolis has won the IPL title nine times.
