Woman, Infant among People Killed in Israeli Attack on Gaza City

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli air and artillery strikes on Gaza City and Rafah overnight have resulted in multiple casualties, including a woman and an infant, according to reports from the Wafa news agency.

The Wafa news agency reported that the bodies of three individuals, including a woman and an infant, were brought to al-Ahli Arab Hospital following an Israeli attack on an apartment in Gaza City's al-Darraj neighborhood.

The agency stated that several people were killed and wounded in the attacks on Gaza City and Rafah, though it did not provide an exact toll.

Deaths and injuries were reported from Israeli air raids on homes in Gaza City's Daraj neighborhood and Old City, as well as from artillery shelling near the University College in the Sabra neighborhood.

In Rafah, several people were wounded and several homes were destroyed in air raids on the city's Brazil neighborhood.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that Rafah's last partially functioning hospital, the al-Helal al-Emirati, has shut down amid the ongoing hostilities, leaving the city with almost no health services.

Alexandra Saieh of Save the Children expressed grave concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. "Gaza is witnessing the worst levels of malnutrition, especially child malnutrition, and it’s entirely man-made," Saieh told Al Jazeera. "Children in Gaza are being starved, deprived of clean water, and adequate medical assistance due to systematic obstruction of humanitarian aid and ongoing hostilities."

Saieh noted that a medical point in Tal as-Sultan, Rafah, addressing malnutrition had to close last week due to attacks in the area.

Of the 36,000 Palestinians killed by Israel since October 7, 15,000 are children. Saieh warned of a potential acceleration of deaths due to malnutrition, starvation, disease, and dehydration. "We fear the situation is much worse. In March, the UN warned of a famine, and humanitarian organizations have not been granted access to prevent it," she added.

Doctors at Al Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah reported being unable to provide essential medical care, with most cases needing evacuation for treatment abroad, but patients are unable to leave Gaza.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported a total death toll of 36,439 and 82,627 injuries since the outbreak of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza.
