Hezbollah Rains Barrage of Rockets at Israel After Senior Commander Killed

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hezbollah launched nearly 200 rockets at northern occupied Palestinian territories on Wednesday, igniting fires in retaliation to the killing of a senior Hezbollah commander in southeastern Lebanon in a strike the previous evening.

The attacks raise concern that the military confrontation between the Israeli regime and Hezbollah is escalating, with both saying they are prepared for war.

The Israeli military confirmed on Wednesday it had killed Taleb Abdullah as well as three other Hezbollah fighters in the strike.

It also said at least 90 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory as sirens sounded in dozens of settlements across the north of the occupied territories.

The regime's military claimed many were intercepted but several landed, causing fires. No casualties were reported.

Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based resistance group, confirmed in a statement early on Wednesday that Abdullah had been killed in an air strike hours earlier in the town of Jouaiyya.

Abdullah, also known as Hajj Abu Taleb, was reportedly the commander of a Hezbollah division covering the western sector of the front line between the border with the occupied territories and the Litani River.

He is only the second operative killed since October 7 to be mourned as a commander by Hezbollah.

The other was Wissam al-Tawil, the deputy head of the elite Radwan unit, who was killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon in January.

The resistance group also confirmed the deaths of three other operatives in the Israeli air strike late on Tuesday.

On Tuesday night, Israel's army said a barrage of “50 launches” had been fired by Hezbollah at the strategic Golan Heights, sparking fires.

The occupying Israeli regime has repeatedly launched attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, after commencing a genocidal war in Gaza that has killed at least 37,164 Palestinians, predominantly women and children so far.

As a retaliatory measure, Hezbollah has been carrying out almost daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions.

At least 455 people have been killed on the Lebanese border, including more than 80 civilians, according to a tally by AFP.

The Israeli military continues to pound areas across the Gaza Strip with no immediate signs of the war ending. At least 37,164 people have been killed and 84,832 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7.
