Iran Ready to Open New Maritime Line in Arbaeen Season

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official expressed the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization’s readiness to launch a new maritime line between Iran’s Khorramshahr and Iraq’s Basra ports to facilitate the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Suitable ways have been paved for the launch of the maritime line, as Iran has officially informed Iraq of its readiness in this regard, the director general of Ports and Maritime Organization in Khorramshahr said.

Ali Askari noted that the Khorramshahr port officials are determined to expand domestic and international maritime tourism.

He said his organization will use all its capacities to launch the first sea voyage from Khorramshahr to Basra.

The distance between Khorramshahr in southwestern Iran and Basra in southeastern Iraq is only 35 kilometers via the Arvand Rud border river.
