Egypt Condemns Gaza School Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Egypt's Foreign Ministry has strongly denounced the Israeli military strike on Gaza City's al-Tabin school, accusing Israel of lacking the "political will" to end the ongoing war.

In a statement reported by the state-run Middle East News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry criticized Israel for repeatedly committing "large-scale crimes" against "unarmed civilians" whenever there is an international push for a ceasefire.

The ministry further asserted that such attacks demonstrate "an unprecedented disregard" for international law.

Egypt, along with Qatar and the United States, is involved in mediating ceasefire talks scheduled for August 15.

Meanwhile, Francesca Albanese, the UN's special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, condemned Israel's use of extrajudicial "killings and murders." She noted that recent assassinations of Hamas and Hezbollah officials in Iran and Lebanon may "amount to an act of aggression."

"Israel’s history of targeted assassinations [of mostly Palestinians] in Palestine and abroad, is long and can no longer remain unaccounted for. Independent and transparent investigations and accountability must be part of the road to peace," Albanese stated in a post on X.

Following the attack, Gaza's Government Media Office released a statement condemning the strike, which resulted in at least 100 fatalities. The statement accused the Israeli military of committing "a massacre" and called on the international community to pressure Israel to halt "genocide and ethnic cleansing" against civilians in Gaza.

The statement also placed full responsibility for the attack on both the Israeli government and the American administration.

The full statement is as follows:

The Israeli occupation army commits a massacre inside the al-Tabin School in Gaza City, which claimed the lives of more than 100 martyrs and dozens of injuries. This clearly comes within the framework of the crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing against our Palestinian people.

The occupation army directly bombed the displaced people while they were performing the dawn prayer, and this caused the number of martyrs to rise rapidly.

Due to the horror of the massacre and the large number of martyrs, medical teams, civil defence, and relief and emergency teams have not been able to recover the bodies of all the martyrs so far.

We condemn in the strongest terms the occupation’s perpetration of this horrific massacre, and we call on the whole world to condemn it. We hold the Israeli occupation and the American administration fully responsible for this massacre.

We call on the international community and international organisations to put pressure on the occupation to stop the crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing against civilians and displaced persons in the Gaza Strip and to stop the cascade of blood flowing in the Gaza Strip.
