Rocket Attack Targets US Military Facility in Syria's Deir ez-Zur

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An illegal US military installation in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zur was reportedly targeted by a rocket attack, with several explosions heard near the Conoco gas field.

A US military facility in Syria's eastern province of Deir ez-Zur came under a rocket attack late Thursday, according to local sources cited by Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network.

Several explosions were reported near the US-controlled Conoco gas field after multiple projectiles struck the site.

US forces at the base activated missile defense systems in response to the incoming rockets. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to the installation.

In recent months, Iraqi resistance forces have carried out numerous strikes on US-run military installations in both Iraq and Syria.

These attacks reflect growing anti-US sentiment in the region, driven by Washington’s support for Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, which have killed at least 40,602 Palestinians.

The US maintains nearly 2,500 troops in Iraq and around 900 in Syria, ostensibly to combat Daesh (ISIS) terrorists, despite the group's defeat by regional forces in 2017.

In 2020, the Iraqi parliament voted to expel US forces following the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in a US drone strike ordered by then-President Donald Trump.
