14-Year-Old Iranian Table Tennis Player Faraji Defeats World No. 1
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian and Chinese national table tennis teams competed in the 2024 Asian Championship, which commenced with a significant victory by Iranian player Benyamin Faraji.
On the second day of the championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Iran’s men’s team lost to China 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Faraji emerged victorious while Noshad Alamiyan and Mohammad Mousavi suffered defeat.
The 14-year-old player took on world number one Wang Chuqin and triumphed with a score of 3-2 (11-8, 3-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-9), despite Wang holding the gold medal in team and mixed doubles from the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Faraji is currently the top-ranked junior table tennis player in the world.
The 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championships is being held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from Oct. 6 to 13.
