Muslim Solidarity Needed to Help Syria, Iran Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the need for unity and convergence among Islamic nations to assist Syria in the fight against terrorist groups, describing the crisis in Syria as part of a plot hatched by the Israeli regime.
In a telephone conversation on Sunday evening, Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the recent activities of terrorist groups in northern Syria.
Pezeshkian described the protection of the territorial integrity of countries, including Syria, as a key regional strategy of Iran, stating, "As the region was moving towards relative calm following the ceasefire in Lebanon, and attention was turning to Gaza, the recent events in Syria caused serious concerns about regional security."
He reiterated Iran's readiness to cooperate in countering these terrorist actions, saying, "Such incidents are part of the sinister plans of the Zionist regime to spread insecurity, discord, and conflict within Islamic countries. This makes it essential for the Islamic community to unite and work together to prevent the spread of terrorism in the region."
The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, expressed concern over insecurity in northern Syria, characterizing the recent movements of terrorist groups as an attempt by the Zionist regime to undermine security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
Sudani further stated that Iraq is prepared to take a leading role in countering the activities of terrorist groups, noting that Baghdad is negotiating with regional leaders to create a collaborative framework for combating terrorism, believing that all regional countries must unite to restore stability and security to Syria.
He emphasized that the Iraqi government and people will thwart the sinister plans of the Zionist regime aimed at promoting sectarian narratives in their country.
