Top Prosecutor for US Capital to Step Down

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The top federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital said on Monday that he will step down before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

"Serving as the US Attorney for the District of Columbia has been the honor of a lifetime," Matthew Graves said in a statement, Anadolu Agency reported.

“I am deeply thankful to Congresswoman (Eleanor) Holmes Norton for recommending me; to President (Joe) Biden for nominating me; and to Attorney General (Merrick) Garland for placing his trust in me," he added.

Graves’s resignation will take effect January 16. Bridget M. Fitzpatrick will become acting US Attorney until a successor to Graves is nominated by Trump and approved by the Senate.

Graves was confirmed by the Senate on October 28, 2021 and was sworn in as the US Attorney for the District of Columbia on November 5 that year.
