Pro-Palestinian Protesters Rally in NYC for Release of Gaza Doctor Detained by Israeli Forces
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pro-Palestinian demonstrators, including healthcare workers, gathered outside NYU Tisch Hospital on Monday to demand the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a prominent Gaza doctor arrested by Israeli forces last month.
The protesters, carrying banners with messages such as "Not another child, Not another hospital," "Gaza forever," and "We are sick from genocide," expressed solidarity with Dr. Abu Safiya.
Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, was detained during a raid by Israeli forces on December 27, 2023.
Amnesty International raised alarm about his detention, urging Israeli authorities to release him and expressing grave concerns about his well-being.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of over 45,800 people, the majority of whom are women and children.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, the Israeli military continues its genocidal war in the enclave.
In December 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant on charges related to war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the enclave.
