Russia-Iran Deal Not Targeted against Other Countries: Lavrov

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov clarified that the soon-to-be-signed partnership agreement with Iran is designed to bolster bilateral capabilities without targeting any other nation.

The agreement, set to be signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on January 17, will follow negotiations in Moscow, according to the Kremlin's announcement on Monday.

"This agreement, as well as our agreement with North Korea, is not directed against any country and is constructive in nature," Lavrov stated during a press conference on Russian diplomacy in 2024.

He emphasized that the deal aims to enhance Russia and Iran's global capabilities, bolster economic development, address social issues, and ensure robust defense capabilities, according to Sputnik.

Earlier in the day, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also highlighted the significance of the agreement, describing it as a pivotal event for Russia. "This is a very important event for us, we attach great importance to it," Peskov said, noting that both presidents are expected to address the media following the signing.
