Israeli Strikes Kill over 60 Palestinians in Gaza in 24 Hours

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least 61 Palestinians have been killed and 281 injured in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry in the enclave.

Medical sources informed Al Jazeera that 24 people were killed in various attacks across Gaza on Tuesday. Eight fatalities were reported in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, 12 in Khan Younis in the south, and four in Gaza City in the north.

According to the Wafa news agency, Israeli bombardment targeted Palestinians in the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, resulting in at least two deaths and multiple injuries. This attack is part of a series of strikes that have killed at least 24 people across central and southern Gaza today.

Civilians, bracing for a potential ceasefire, are seeking to avoid military zones but report being trapped by surveillance drones. Israeli helicopters were also seen earlier firing at residential neighborhoods in eastern Deir el-Balah.

Journalist Mohammed al-Talmas, injured in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City, has succumbed to his injuries, the Government Media Office in Gaza confirmed. His death brings the total number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 204.

Al-Talmas, an employee of Safa news agency, was killed in an air raid in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City.

“We call on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and all journalistic bodies worldwide to condemn these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals in the Gaza Strip,” the Government Media Office stated on Telegram.

An Israeli gunboat has shot and killed a Palestinian fisherman off the coast of western Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, according to our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic.

The victim is one of at least 200 fishermen to be killed by Israeli attacks since the start of the war, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture.

Thousands of other fishers have been forced to abandon the enclave’s waters, said the ministry.

A round of ceasefire talks has begun in Qatar amid growing hopes that a deal is within reach, Reuters is reporting, citing an official briefed on the negotiations.

A source quoted by AFP said today’s meetings “are aimed at finalising the remaining details of the deal”.

The source added that the heads of Israel’s intelligence agencies, the Middle East envoys for the incoming and outgoing US administrations and Qatar’s prime minister are due at the talks.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks have killed at least 46,645 Palestinians and wounded 110,012, the Health Ministry reported.
