Iran’s Army, IRGC Conduct Joint Missile Drill in Indian Ocean

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Navy and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out a joint missile operation during a large-scale war game in southeast of Iran, detonating targets in the northern regions of the Indian Ocean.

The Iranian Army’s four divisions, namely the Ground Force, Air Force, Navy and Air Defense, have launched a large-scale joint war game, codenamed Zolfaqar 1403, which covers a large area stretching from the northern Indian Ocean to the Makran coasts in southeastern Iran.

During a joint missile operation on Tuesday, the Iranian Navy and the IRGC Aerospace Force hit naval targets in the northern parts of the Indian Ocean.

The Navy and the IRGC forces launched various ballistic and naval cruise missiles to detonate and sink a naval target.

In another phase of the war game, the homegrown “Khordad 15th” air defense missile system shot down the aerial targets approaching the war game zone.

As the “Monir” passive radars could detect targets with small cross-section areas, the “Majid” air defense missile system brought down hostile drones at low altitudes.

The Iranian Army’s “Arash”, “Mohajer-6” and “Kaman-12” drones also took action in the drill, conducted diverse and complicated operations, and dropped “Qaem-1” bombs.

The Arash drone managed to hit a specific target after flying for 1,200 kilometers.

The Iranian UAVs carried out patrol and reconnaissance operations along the southeastern coasts, gathering information necessary for tactical decisions.

The commander of the joint war game, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, has said that the purpose of the drill, whose theme is “sustainable security and might”, is to improve the country’s defensive and deterrent power in the face of the ground, aerial and naval threats.
