AFC Champions League: Iran's Esteghlal Overpowers Al Rayyan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Esteghlal football team finished its 2014 AFC Champions League campaign in third place in Group A after a victory in its match with Qatari Al Rayyan.
In a Wednesday evening match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Esteghlal beat Al Rayyan of Qatar 3-1.
Kebe scored a brace for Esteghlal in the 54th and 73rd minutes and Mohammad Qazi also scored for the Iranian giant in the 60th minute.
Fahad Khalfan pulled one back for Al Rayyan on 80 minutes.
In another match of the Group A, Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia defeated Al Jazira of the UAE 2-1. Both teams qualified for the round of 16 with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Esteghlal finished in third place with seven points and Al Rayyan remained rooted to the bottom of the table with only three points.
