Greek Airline Denies Report on Tehran-Tel Aviv Flights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The office of the Aegean Airline SA in Tehran dismissed a report on the establishment of direct flights between the Iranian capital of Tehran and Tel Aviv in the Occupied Palestine as unfounded.

Manzari, the representative of Aegean in Iran, told the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday that the Greek airline, like other foreign airlines including Austrian and Lufthansa, has direct flights from Greece to Tel Aviv.

However, he added, reports of Aegean’s flights from Tehran to Tel Aviv are baseless.

“Such a thing is not possible,” he said, adding that the Iranian government should issue permission for it, which is out of the question.

Earlier on Sunday, an Iranian website had released a directive by the Greek airline claiming that Aegean has established a flight route between the two cities.

Back on July 7, an Iranian aviation official had announced the country will set up new flights to a number of European cities in the next few months as part of a plan to increase the number of flight destinations.

Mohammad Khodakarami, deputy head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO), said at the time that new destinations in Europe will be accessible for Iranian passengers within the coming months.

Later on July 23, Aegean Airlines SA, the largest Greek airline, launched direct flights between Tehran and Athens.

Mohammad Reza Heidarqoli, the director of Flight Planning and Coordination Department of the airport said at the time that “this is the first time the Greek company is operating (flights) in Iran.”
