Germany Welcomes Iran’s Participation in Syria Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel has welcomed Iran’s role in any negotiations seeking to end crisis in Syria, media reports said.
“I think Iran has a lot of influence over what happens in Syria. And everyone is welcome to participate constructively in the negotiations,” Merkel made the remarks at a news conference in Berlin on Monday, Reuters reported.
The German Chancellor, however, said Iran's remarks on Israel are not acceptable.
Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. Reports said the violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 222,000 people.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Iran has emphasized that the only sustainable solution to the crisis in Syria is through an inclusive and Syrian-led political process that meets the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.
Previous UN-mediated talks on Syria have failed to reach a solution to end the conflict in the Arab country.
