UAE Frees Detained Iranian Teachers: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior official at Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that 9 Iranian teachers, who had been detained by the United Arab Emirates over the alleged lack of work permits, have been freed by the Arab country’s officials.

Speaking on Friday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Expatriates’ Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said the detained teachers were freed thanks to the efforts made by the ministry and Iran’s envoy to the UAE.

9 Iranian teachers were arrested a week ago in the UAE for lacking work permits.

Media reports on Monday suggested that the teachers were having a "bad experience" in prison and had their heads shaved.

Iran on Sunday had summoned the charge d’affaires of the United Arab Emirates in Tehran to protest at the arrests.
