Ministers Discuss Expansion of Iran, Afghanistan Trade Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and his afghan counterpart exchanged views about ways to promote bilateral relations between the two neighbors in various economic areas.

Speaking in the meeting with Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industries Homayoun Rasa on Tuesday, Nematzadeh said given that Tehran and Kabul have numerous potentials and capacities, the level of economic relations should be further promoted.

“There are many cases of economic cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan, which can lead to expansion of ties through establishing joint chambers of commerce and reciprocal visits by the two countries’ merchants,” he noted.

Nematzadeh further said Iran is ready to share its industrial experiences with the “friend and brother” country of Afghanistan.

The Afghan minister, for his part, emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the major trade partners of Afghanistan.

Back in April 2015, Iran and Afghanistan signed two cooperation agreements as part of efforts to boost relations between the two neighbors in various areas.

In a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani, high-ranking officials from the two countries singed the documents.

In 2009, Iran was one of the largest investors in Afghanistan mainly in the construction of roads and bridges as well as agriculture and health care.
