Iran Seeking Peaceful Coexistence with All Neighbors: President
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that Tehran seeks no conflict with its neighbors and wants peace and security to be established throughout the Middle East.
Establishing, upholding, and expanding peace, stability, and progress in the region and the world are Iran’s principled policy, Rouhani said in a Monday meeting with Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Rome.
“We are looking for peaceful coexistence with all of our neighbors,” the Iranian president stressed.
“Our first common responsibility is to try to establish peace and security all over the world and prepare the grounds for people’s peaceful coexistence,” he added.
“Iran as a stable country in the region has played and will play its constructive role to create stability and security in this region,” Rouhani went on to say.
Renzi, for his part, praised Iran as a “very important player” in the region, and expressed Rome’s willingness to expand its ties with Iran to establish global stability.
“In its ties with Iran, Italy is not just looking for economic interactions, but also wants to have close cooperation for stability and development at the regional and global levels,” he added.
Rouhani on Monday arrived in the Italian capital as the first destination of his European tour, and was officially received by his counterpart Sergio Mattarella.
After his trip to Italy and a visit to the Vatican City, Rouhani will head to Paris Wednesday on an official visit.
