Iran Ranks 14th in World Steel Production: WSA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A new report released by the World Steel Association (WSA) shows Iran ranked 14th in the world in crude steel production last year.

According to the report, Iran produced 16.11 million tons of crude steel in 2015, moving down one place compared to the same period in 2014.

Iran had produced over 16.33 tons of steel in 2014. Thus, it witnessed a decrease of 1.3 in 2015.

The report added that the overall global production of crude steel totaled 1,622 million tons in 2015, a decrease of 2.8 compared to 2014.

Crude steel production decreased in all regions except Oceania in 2015, the report added.

The WSA report also said China, which is the largest consumer and producer of steel in the world, produced 803 million tons of steel last year, showing a decline of 2.3 percent compared to 2014.

Japan also saw its 2015 output fall by 5 percent to hit 105.2 million tons, it said.

The World Steel Association represents approximately 170 steel producers (including 9 of the world’s 10 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. Its members represent around 85% of world steel production.
