Syrian Troops Kill over 80 Daesh Militants in Khan Shaykh in 2 Days
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – At least 80 members of Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) were killed over the past two days as the Syrian army stepped up its attacks on the terrorist group in western Damascus.
According to Tasnim dispatches, clashes between the Syrian government forces and Daesh militants in Khan Shaykh district, western suburbs of Damascus, left more than 80 militants dead.
Following the army’s major advances against Daesh in the area, militants in Khan Shaykh reached a deal with the Syrian government on Sunday, the report added.
Under the deal, the rebels will be moved to Syria's northwestern province of Idlib after handing over their weapons and ammunition.
The latest developments come as reports suggest that major Takfiri groups fighting in Syria are fractured more than anytime as they are struggling to close ranks in the face of army advances on various fronts.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
