Army Continues to Make Advances against Daesh across Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their military campaign against Takfiri terrorists in the provinces of Homs and Deir ez-Zor, leaving large groups of them dead and injured.

On Friday, Syrian forces launched several operations against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) positions in the areas of al-Mahr oil field, al-Bida al-Sharqia, and Hayan gas plant in northwest of the ancient city of Palmyra, Homs province, inflicting material losses and casualties on them and forcing them to leave the districts, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

A number of their vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns were destroyed in the operations.

Separately, Syrian warplanes pounded the positions of the Daesh terrorists in the areas of Talit al-Khanzir, al-Ma’amel and Tharda crossroad in the western province of Deir ez-Zor, managing to seize a booby-trapped vehicle that was prepared to target the Arab country’s forces near al-Syasia Bridge.

The army troops also succeeded in cutting off a key supply route for the terrorists in al-Difa’a Camp in the province after claiming the lives of scores of them.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
