CISM Links Military, Sports Spheres: Iran’s DM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan appreciated the constructive role the International Military Sports Council (CISM) plays in strengthening ties among the armed forces of different countries through sporting activities.
Sports diplomacy, which is well embodied in CISM, provides a perfect opportunity for linking the military and sporting spheres, the Iranian defense minister said on Monday, in a meeting with officials of the Asian countries attending the 5th CISM conference in Tehran.
Highlighting the role that athletes of different countries can play in conveying the “message of peace, friendship and security”, Dehqan expressed the hope that the CISM conference would help Asian nations boost consultation and planning and extend friendship via sports.
CISM, one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world, is in charge of organizing various sporting events for the armed forces of 134 member states.
Every year, CISM holds over 20 Military World Championships for approximately 30 different sports, continental and regional competitions, the Military World Games and most recently Winter Games and World Cadet Games.
