Iranian, Russian Defense Ministers Discuss Syria after US Attack
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, held talks on the latest developments in the Middle East, Syria in particular.
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, the two defense ministers discussed the situation in the region following last week's US missile strike on Syria, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, according to the Tass news agency.
"The ministers discussed the situation in the region developing after the US carried out a missile strike at Shayrat airbase," it said.
Both sides stressed that the attack violated the international law and was aimed at helping the Takfiri terrorists, Daesh in particular, operating in the Arab country.
According to the statement, the two sides also underscored the need to continue joint efforts in the campaign against terrorism and other sources of insecurity in the region.
On Friday, the US launched a missile attack on the Syrian government’s Shayrat Airfield near Homs with 59 Tomahawk missiles.
