Saudi Arabia Bars Syrian Pilgrims from Hajj Again: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Saudi Arabia, for the fifth consecutive year, has barred Syrian pilgrims from travelling to the Arabian Peninsula country and performing this year’s Hajj rituals, a report said.

In a statement on Monday, Syria’s Ministry of Awqaf (Endowment) confirmed that Saudi authorities have once again denied Syrian citizens the right to perform Hajj this year, SANA reported.

This year is the fifth consecutive year that the Saudi regime has barred Syrian citizens from performing the rituals.

The statement said the spiritual journey is being “politicized by the Wahhabi Saudi authorities despite the Ministry’s repeated contacts with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj in this regard through the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry.”

The annual Hajj pilgrimage is one of the pillars of Islam. According to religious tenets, every Muslim is duty bound to visit the holy city of Mecca.
