Army Spokesman: Pakistani Soil Never to Be Used against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Pakistani military's top spokesman, Major General Asif Ghafoor, made assurances that his country’s soil will never be used against any country, including Iran.

“Pakistan’s relations with Iran are not at the cost of its relations with any other country and vice versa,” Pakistan’s Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.

“We greatly value our relations with Iran, which have a positive history…,” the spokesman was quoted by the Geo Television as saying.

Major General Ghafoor said that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa brought a message of friendship and cooperation to Iran and described the Iran-Pakistan border as the border of peace and friendship.

He further pointed to Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan and said that Pakistan hopes for peace in Afghanistan and supports all initiatives towards this end.

“We have done everything on our side of the border,” Major General Ghafoor said. “There are no terrorist sanctuaries inside Pakistan.”

A high-ranking delegation from Pakistan Army arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening for an official visit. General Qamar Javed Bajwa has had meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.
