Yemenis Not to Let Saudi Crimes Go Unanswered: Iran’s Velayati

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati condemned the recent assassination of Saleh al-Samad, the head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, and said the Arab country’s people would never allow the Riyadh regime’s crimes to “go unanswered”.

In a message released on Tuesday, Velayati offered his condolences to the Yemeni people and government over the martyrdom of Samad in a recent Saudi-led air strike and described him as a “prominent example of a brave, responsible and warrior leader.”

For more than three years, the Al Saud regime has bombarded the Yemeni people without any reasons and thinks that it can bring a faithful, resistant, and independent-seeking nation to its knees by killing the leaders of the Islamic Awakening of Yemen, he said, stressing that the martyrdom of leaders like Saleh al-Samad will only strengthen the Yemeni nation’s resolve to resist against the Saudi-led coalition until achieving complete victory.

“Obviously, the oppressed people of Yemen, through their wisdom, patience and resistance, will not allow the despicable crimes of the Saudi regime to go unanswered,” he underlined, adding, “We will soon witness the final defeat of the Saudi aggressors.”

Yemen’s Supreme Political Council announced on April 23 that Samad lost his life after the Saudi jets hit his residence in the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah on April 19.

The council, Yemen’s top governing body, also appointed Mehdi Mohammad Hussein al-Mashat as its new chairman.

Meanwhile, leader of Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, in a live speech, said all aggressor countries, including the US and Saudi Arabia, were responsible for the killing of Samad, and they must await the consequences of their crime.

He also stressed that such crimes against the Yemeni nation would not break the will of his people in defending their country against the so-called military coalition.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the coalition for over three years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
