Yemen Army Inflicts Heavy Losses on Saudi-Led Forces in Hudaydah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemeni army troopers and Houthi fighters stepped up their attacks against Saudi-backed mercenaries and UAE forces in Hudaydah, managing to inflict massive losses on them in the western port city.
According to a report carried by Saba news agency on Wednesday, the Yemeni forces fired a homegrown ballistic missile dubbed “Qaher M2” at a position of the Saudi-backed militants in Hudaydah, killing and injuring a large number of them.
In addition, they shelled the militants’ gathering centers around the international airport of the city, destroying at least 15 military vehicles.
They also cut off the mercenaries’ main supply routes in the areas of Nukhaila, Mujils and Duraihimi, seizing 10 armored vehicles and destroying six, the report added.
It further said that engineering units of the army and popular committees also destroyed the aggressors’ military vehicles with explosive devices during a counterattack in the airport, killing scores there.
Meanwhile, the artillery force of the army and committees targeted an arms depot in the south of Duraihimi district in Hudaydah, according to the report.
The Saudi-led coalition and its mercenaries began the massive operation on Wednesday, June 13, to bring Yemen’s port city under their control.
While the Yemeni army and popular committees are fighting off the assailants and countering attacks on residential areas, international humanitarian organizations have warned of dire consequences of any escalation of violence around Hudaydah.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Lise Grande recently said “as many as 250,000 people may lose everything -even their lives,” if there is a military attack on Hudaydah.
