Danish Envoy Goes to Iran Foreign Ministry over Assassination Plot Allegations

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced on Wednesday that Denmark’s ambassador to Tehran visited the Foreign Ministry for a meeting with director of a ministerial department in charge of Northern Europe affairs.

The envoy has received a protest from the Iranian Foreign Ministry against the “hasty political and media reactions from some Danish officials to the arrest of a Norwegian-Iranian citizen on a charge of plotting to assassinate an individual in Denmark,” the spokesperson explained.

In the meeting, Qassemi added, the Iranian Foreign Ministry official has strongly rejected the allegations raised by Denmark that Tehran has plotted an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate an opposition figure in the European country and slammed the move as part of the “seditions and plots hatched by the notorious enemies of the good and growing ties between Iran and Europe in the current special and critical conditions.”

The Danish ambassador has been also reminded of the necessity for calculated and wise handling of developments and has been warned against the consequences of ill-advised and controversial measures, Qassemi stated.

According to the spokesman, the Danish envoy said he has been summoned to Copenhagen for a series of consultations and pledged to convey Iran’s protest and expectations.

It came after Denmark’s Security and Intelligence services said they had arrested a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent for allegedly planning the assassination of the leader of a separatist group that was behind a terrorist attack on a military parade in Iran’s Ahvaz on September 22 that killed civilians and military forces.

During the military parade in Ahvaz, Takfiri militants opened fired on military officials and ordinary people in the event. Twenty-five people died and 60 others were injured in the terrorist attack.
