World’s Biggest Gathering of Islamic Scholars Opens in Tehran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The 2018 edition of the International Islamic Unity Conference, the world’s baggiest gathering of Muslim scholars, kicked off here in the Iranian capital on Saturday morning.
The 32nd edition of the conference, organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), started with representatives from 100 countries in attendance.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the international event, being held under the motto of “Quds, the Axis of Unity”.
About 350 foreign guests, including 10 ministers and 40 Muftis, have participated in the gathering, which will end Monday.
The conference is held annually on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) in an effort to lay the ground for stronger unity and solidarity among Muslims and provide appropriate solutions for their problems.
