US Has No Choice But to Flee Region: Iranian General
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The deputy head of the Iranian Army’s Center for Strategic Studies pointed to a recent decision by the US administration to withdraw all its forces from Syria, saying that Washington has no way other than escaping from the region.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Brigadier General Mohammad Hassan Nami said the US has bullishly declared that it will pull its troops from Syria.
The Americans, themselves, have created the Daesh (ISIS o ISIL) terrorist group, he said, adding that Daesh got into trouble more than 19 times, and the US provided them with their needed weapons and equipment.
“The US is really desperate and has no way other than escaping from the region,” the commander went on to say.
In a video posted on Twitter last week, US President Donald Trump said he has begun what will be a total withdrawal of US troops from Syria, declaring they have succeeded in their mission to defeat Daesh and were no longer needed in the country.
The US and its allies have been bombarding what they call Daesh positions inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate.
The strikes have on many occasions resulted in civilian casualties and failed to fulfill their declared aim of countering terrorism.
Syria has on several occasions written to the UN, complaining that the US was flagrantly violating its sovereignty. The US supports militants fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad and has repeatedly attacked Syrian army positions.
