Chemidor Earns Narrow Win over Petrochimi at FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chemidor of Iran seized a narrow win over its compatriot Petrochimi at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers 2019 on Tuesday.
Chemidor beat reigning champion Petrochimi 74-73 in the competition underway in Baghdad, Iraq.
Petrochimi’s Behnam Yakhchali scored 22 points, while Amir Hossein Azari scored 15 points for Chemidor.
On Wednesday, Petrochimi will meet Qalandia from Palestine and Chemidor play Al Jaych of Syria.
This is a monumental tournament for the Iraq capital, which is hosting its first major basketball event since 1988.
The competition will qualify spots for champions of their respective countries in Round 1 of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, where four slots for teams from WABA are allocated. Therefore, the top four teams at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers 2019 will each gain a qualifying spot for their respective country in the succeeding round.
