Iranian Actor Jamshid Mashayekhi Passes Away

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iconic Iranian actor Jamshid Mashayekhi passed away at age 84 in Tehran on Tuesday night.

The highly-revered actor died due to heart arrest at a hospital in Tehran.

Born in 1934, Mashayekhi began his career as a theater actor and then starred in a host of movies and TV series before and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

He had been awarded the best actor in the Fajr Film Festival of Iran and many other international events several times.

Many critics believe that Mashayekhi has gone down in history by playing roles in outstanding movies and TV series such as “Prince Ihtijab”, “Kamalolmolk”, “Hezardastan” and “Chrysanthemums”.

The popular actor will be laid to rest in Tehran on April 6.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi have in separate messages expressed condolences on the passing away of Mr. Mashayekhi.
