Gunmen Kill Border Guard West of Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian soldier has been martyred in a clash with unknown gunmen trying to cross the country’s western border, a local police commander said.
Speaking to Tasnim on Saturday, commander of the Iranian Border Police in the province of Kurdistan said the troops serving in the border regiment of Marivan have clashed with a group of gunmen who were trying to cross the border.
According to General Kiomars Sheikhi, the border guards inflicted heavy losses on the intruders in the clashes.
One of the Iranian soldiers, Majid Shiripaz, a warrant officer doing compulsory military service, was martyred in the exchange of fire, the general said, adding that another border guard has been wounded.
In July 2018, anti-revolutionary terrorists attacked a border post of the Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base in Marivan, killing 11 forces of the base.
The Iranian Border Police, the IRGC Ground Force, and the Army Ground Force are tasked with protecting Iran’s land borders.
Iran has more than 6,000 kilometers of common borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Iraq on the ground.
