‘UAE Oil Companies among Our Targets’, Yemeni Commander Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Yemeni military commander told the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV channel that targeting the oil fields deep in Saudi Arabia is a strong message that the UAE should also read.

The commander who didn’t want his name published warned the UAE that their oil companies and their glass-made cities "will be among our future targets."

He said that the UAE should officially declare its withdrawal from the war that destroyed Yemen and stop massacres against its people.

"The unofficial announcement of withdrawal from some axes will not prevent us from targeting the UAE oil companies," he added.

The military commander pointed out that the targeting comes within Yemen’s legitimate right to stop the aggression and massacres against its people by the Saudi-led coalition.

This comes at the time when a spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces said that "the deterrent operation targeting Abqaiq and Khurais refineries was carried out with a number of UAE aircraft, which operated on different type of engines."

Brigadier General Yahya Saree warned in a statement on Monday that foreign companies and workers who are present at facilities that came under attack by the Yemeni army and Popular Committees, saying “those places are still under our radar and we could target them again at any time.”

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 91,000 lives over the past four and a half years.

The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.
