Israeli Occupation of Syria Intolerable: IRGC Chief
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Condemning the Zionist regime’s “unbearable” seizure of Syrian territories amid the recent turmoil in the Arab country, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said courageous Syrian youth will liberate their motherland.
Addressing a cultural ceremony in Tehran on Sunday, Major General Hossein Salami likened the foreign powers to “hungry wolves” that are trying to rip apart Syria as a deer left alone in the wild.
The Zionists are tearing apart south of Syria, while the other parties are pulling apart its northern and eastern parts as the bewildered Syrian people are facing an obscure future, the general said.
Denouncing the Israeli occupation of Syrian territories, the commander said it is intolerable that the Zionists can see inside the houses of Damascus with the naked eye.
Stressing the need to stand against the Israeli regime, General Salami echoed the recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei that the territories that have been seized in Syria will be liberated by the brave Syrian youth by God’s grace.
“The Zionists will pay a heavy price. They will be buried in that land, but it will need some time,” he added.
The commander also noted that the developments in Syria are a “bitter lesson” that must be taken into account along with other major examples of history, such as the Sacred Defense in the 1980s.
The IRGC chief stated that the Syrian people were living a normal life as long as the Iranian forces were present in the Arab country, because Iran was after Syria’s dignity.
Iran was acting in Syria not to annex part of the Arab country’s soil or to pursue ambitious objectives there, but the Islamic Republic was trying to prevent any damage to the dignity of Muslims, he added.
In a speech on December 11, Ayatollah Khamenei said the US and the Zionist regime are the main elements behind the recent plot against Syria.
The “real command room” for the plot in Syria belongs to the US and the Israeli regime, Ayatollah Khamenei added, pointing to unquestionable evidence for it.
The Leader characterized the actions of the Zionists and the US in the recent events in Syria as one of the indications. “If they were not the architects of the events in Syria, why did they not remain silent like other countries? By bombing hundreds of infrastructure centers, airports, research centers, training centers for scientists, and other locations in Syria, they have practically interfered in the ongoing events,” he asserted.
The Israeli regime has seized territory in Syrian-controlled areas of the Golan Heights and has hit hundreds of targets across Syria after the fall of government of President Bashar al-Assad.
