Iran Parliament Speaker: High Voter Turnout to Reduce Hostile Pressures

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said the participation of people in the elections would help decrease the pressure of enemies on the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to reporters after casting his ballot at the Friday’s nationwide votes for the parliament and the midterm elections of the Assembly of Experts, Larijani said the presence of people in the polling stations would support a strong parliament and reduce the pressure of enemies.

By taking part in the elections, people strengthen the organizational structure of the country for a better administration of the issues, and also provide a political and security support for the country, he added.

Larijani also noted that the US officials have failed to dissuade people from attending the elections.

“God willing, we will have a good parliament that would help resolve the problems and hold back the enemy from (exerting) pressures in Iran,” the parliament speaker underscored.

The nationwide votes for the parliament and the midterm elections of the Assembly of Experts officially began in Iran on Friday morning.

In comments after voting just minutes after beginning the election, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei described the election day as a “national celebration” and a day to “restore the civil rights of the nation”.

Ayatollah Khamenei also emphasized that participation in the election is a “religious duty”.

“The election guarantees the country’s national interests, and whoever is interested in the country’s national interests must take part in the election,” the Leader added.
