COVID-19 Pandemic in Iran: Some 3,000 New Cases Detected

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nearly 3,000 new coronavirus cases have been detected in Iran during the past 24 hours, more than half of whom have been admitted to the hospital, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Wednesday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 410,334 following the detection of 2,981 new cases over the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 1,726 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,827 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 23,632, saying the disease has taken the lives of 179 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 352,019 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Lari also noted that more than 3,641,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 29.7 million and the death toll has exceeded 940,000.
