Iran Congratulates Rahmon on Reelection as Tajik President
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Emomali Rahmon on winning the presidential election in Tajikistan for another term.
In a message on Monday, Rouhani congratulated the Tajik leader on his reelection.
He also expressed confidence that the cultural and historical commonalities between the two friendly and brotherly nations of Iran and Tajikistan would allow for the promotion of ties during Rahmon’s new term to fulfil the common interests and strengthen regional peace and stability.
Rahmon secured another seven-year term after garnering 90 percent of votes in a nationwide poll in Tajikistan.
Around 85 per cent of the country’s five million eligible voters handed in their ballots, according to authorities.
Rahmon, 68, has led the former Soviet republic for nearly three decades. He came to power amid a devastating civil war in the early 1990s following Tajikistan’s transition to independence from the Soviet Union.
