Hundreds Rally in Paris in Support of Anti-Police Brutality Activist (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Demonstrators gathered outside a Paris court on Friday to express their support for Assa Traore an anti-Police brutality activist who is facing a defamation lawsuit from the police.
Assa Traore, the sister of Adama Traore, a Black Frenchman who died in police custody in 2016, is being charged for publicly naming the three police officers allegedly involved in her younger brother's death.
Protesters could be seen holding banners, shouting and chanting 'Justice for Adama.'
On the third anniversary of Adama's death in July 2019, Assa published a column entitled “I accuse” on Facebook, where she mentions the names of the three gendarmes whom she accuses of having killed her brother.
"They are filing a complaint about the 'I accuse' letter that I stand by a thousand percent. I still say it today, all the people who will hinder the manifestation of the truth, I will lengthen the letter 'I accuse' and their names will be exposed," Assa Traore said ahead of her hearing.
“We have police chiefs to protect their colleagues who make false reports. This fight, we will never let go, we will go to the end, if necessary I will give up my life,” Assa added.
Assa Traore, an anti-Police brutality activist, became a symbolic figure for anti-racism in France after her 24-year-old brother Adama died in police custody in a suburb north of Paris, five years ago.
The circumstances of his death remain unclear, with the case still being investigated.
