Iran Earns Third Successive Win at Asian Women's Handball C’ship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran earned its third successive win at the 2021 Asian Women's Handball Championship at the Princess Sumaya Hall in Amman, Jordan on Sunday.

Team Melli beat Jordan 28-22 in Group B. Iran started the campaign with a 23-20 loss against Japan but defeated Kuwait 38-11 and Palestine 52-9, respectively.

Iran is scheduled to meet Syria in its last group match on Tuesday.

South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are in Group A.

The 2021 Asian Women's Handball Championship is being held in Jordan from September 15 to 25.

It also acts as the qualification tournament for the 2021 World Women's Handball Championship, with the top six teams from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be held in Spain.

On August 9, 2020, the Asian Handball Federation decided to postpone the championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the championship was scheduled to take place from December 10 to 22, 2020.

On August 3, 2021, the AHF announced to move the event from South Korea to Jordan due to the pandemic.
