Medical Student Enrollments in Iran to Rise

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution approved a plan for a 20% annual rise in the number of matriculated medical students.

Participants in a meeting of the council, chaired by President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday evening, ratified a plan to increase medical student annual enrollments by 20% for four years.

The increase is aimed at allocating more physicians to the underprivileged regions and new students can enroll in all medical universities across the country.

The number of medical students in Iran is projected to rise by 9,000 in four years under the new plan.

According to the statistics released by the World Health Organization's Global Health Workforce Statistics, the rate of physicians per 1,000 people in Iran stood at 1.6 in 2018.
