The Croat underwent successful surgery in early May in his own country for suffering a gastrointestinal illness.

He will start his preparation program for Team Melli after returning to Tehran.

Iran has been drawn in Group B along with England, the US and one of Ukraine, Scotland or Wales in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
