Iran Condemns US Attack on Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned air raids that the US carried out in Syria on Wednesday, denying that Iran-linked groups have been targeted in the attack.
In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the US military’s recent attack on the Syrian people and infrastructures as a violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
The US military’s new act of aggression against the people of Syria was a terrorist action against the popular groups and fighters opposing the occupation, he added, denying any link between them and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The continued presence of the American military forces in parts of Syria is in contravention of the international laws and constitutes occupation and a violation of Syria’s national sovereignty, the spokesman stated, stressing that the US must immediately leave Syria and stop plundering the Arab country’s oil and grain.
Slamming the US’ claim to fight against terrorism as a mere excuse for the continuation of occupation, Kanaani said the American officials’ admission that the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group has been created by the US still remains in the memory of people of the region.
On Wednesday, the US said it has carried out air raids in eastern Syria, targeting infrastructure facilities used by what it called groups affiliated with Iran.
The US military’s Central Command said the raids in Syria’s Deir Ez- Zur were ordered by President Joe Biden.
Deir Ez-Zur is a strategic province that borders Iraq and contains oil fields.
