Iran Reviewing US’ Response to JCPOA Revival Plans: FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is carefully examining Washington’s response to the initiatives for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting the sanctions, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said, reaffirming the Islamic Republic’s resolve to strike a robust and durable agreement.
In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Amirabdollahian and his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi talked about the latest developments in the sanctions removal talks.
The top Iranian diplomat thanked the Persian Gulf sultanate, saying Iran is carefully studying the US’ response and will announce its views and make a decision once examining the US’ reply is over.
“We are determined to reach a good, lasting and robust deal,” he underlined, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Oman’s foreign minister, for his part, appreciated Iran’s constructive and responsible efforts as well as its good will about reaching a deal.
Busaidi also expressed hope that the Vienna talks would produce good results thanks to joint cooperation between all parties to the negotiations.
On August 24, Iran received the US’ response to Tehran’s proposals aimed at resolving the remaining issues in the talks on sanctions removal and revival of the JCPOA.
The US has responded via the EU’s coordinator of the Vienna negotiations Enrique Mora.
Four days of intense talks between representatives of Iran and the five remaining parties to JCPOA ended on August 8 with a modified text proposed by the EU on the table.
The talks came after a five-month hiatus as the US negotiators failed to overcome their indecisiveness.
Iran submitted its response to the EU draft proposal on August 15, a week after the latest round of talks wrapped up. After submitting its response, Tehran urged Washington to show "realism and flexibility" in order to reach an agreement.
However, it took almost ten days for the Biden administration to submit its response to Iran’s comments on the EU draft.
