England Defender Ben Chilwell Misses World Cup
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – England full-back left Ben Chilwell will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to a hamstring injury.
Ben Chilwell was forced off injured in Chelsea's 2-1 Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb Wednesday night. He left Stamford Bridge on crutches just over two weeks before the World Cup starts.
“Following the injury sustained in our recent game against Dinamo Zagreb, Ben has undergone a scan on his hamstring. Results show that Ben has suffered a significant injury and the defender is unfortunately expected to miss the World Cup,” a Chelsea statement reads.
Gareth Southgate will name his England squad for the World Cup in Qatar on Thursday, with their campaign then getting under way against Iran on November 21.
