Iran, China to Play at FIBA World Cup Qualifier behind Closed Doors

TEHRAN – Iran will play China in the fifth window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers behind closed doors.

The match is scheduled for Friday in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

The last time these two faced each other in a major FIBA competition was in the Semi-Finals of Asia Cup 2015 with China winning 70-57 on its way to a 16th title.

Sitting at the top are Australia and China, followed by Kazakhstan and Iran who have the same 5-3 record. Kazakhstan, however, has two wins over Iran which gives the team the tiebreaker.

One of these top four teams has to (unfortunately) be eliminated, which is why Iran will have a bit more pressure to go all out in their remaining games.
