FM Stresses Importance of Iran-Slovenia Parliamentary Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian highlighted the significance of parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Slovenia.

He met with his Slovenian counterpart Tanja Fajon on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday.

Amirabdollahian said he was pleased to meet Fajon and voiced regret over the recent flooding in Slovenia.

He also congratulated Slovenia on becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and expressed hope that this will help the world body achieve its global peace and stability goals.

Referring to the last bilateral meeting between the two top diplomats in New York, Amirabdollahian said, “Since then, we have seen many developments unfolding in the region and the entire world”.

He added that there are various means including political consultations format and consular cooperation between the two countries, which Iran would like to make more active.

Amirabdollahian also stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation with Slovenia, calling for launching parliamentary friendship groups.

The top Iranian diplomat urged efforts to boost commercial and economic ties and underscored the need to increase private sector commercial cooperation between Iran and Slovenia.

Also, he described the Iran-Slovenia joint commission for economic cooperation as one of the most important frameworks used by the two sides.

Amirabdollahian said he was glad to see an increase in bilateral commercial cooperation, voicing hope that with the upcoming meeting of the joint commission, Iran and Slovenia will witness yet another rise in commercial cooperation, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Amirabdollahian further outlined Iran’s views about Palestine and the Gaza crisis, adding that war definitely is not the solution and if the genocide in Gaza is stopped, the spillage of war and instability in the region will also be controlled and stability will be restored in the region and in the Red Sea.

The top Iranian diplomat added that the US cannot make decisions for the Palestinian people and if the political plans imposed by the US had been effective, “we would not be witnessing the current crisis in Gaza”.

Amirabdollahian underscored the importance of the security of shipping and navigation in regional and international waters and said the Islamic Republic of Iran supports this security and considers it as vital for its foreign trade, but the root cause of the crisis in the Red Sea must be addressed, which is about the war on Gaza.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that Iran will continue its efforts to restore lasting security in the region.

The foreign minister of Slovenia also said she was pleased to meet Amirabdollahian and renewed her country's condemnation of the terrorist attack in the Iranian city of Kerman.

Fajon once again offered condolences and sympathies to the government and people of Iran over the tragic incident.

She stressed that her country is willing to strengthen relations with Iran and after confirming various areas of bilateral cooperation, she noted her country's desire to continue consultations in order to achieve common goals in areas of mutual interest.

Fajon also said she was worried about the developments in Gaza, saying Slovenia opposes the war and believes the violence in Gaza must come to an end.

She further outlined Slovenia's view on some regional issues, including Palestine, emphasizing that her country is ready to continue consultations and joint efforts to resolve regional crises.
