Gaza Mourns 8,900 Women Killed by Israeli Aggression on Int’l Women's Day
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - As the world observes International Women's Day, Gaza's government media office remembers the 8,900 Palestinian women killed by Israel since October, amidst the silence of the international community.
In a statement released Friday, the media office revealed that Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza, which commenced in October, has claimed the lives of 8,900 Palestinian women and left over 23,000 others wounded, with 2,100 still unaccounted for.
"While the world celebrates International Women's Day on March 8, honoring women for their achievements and struggles, Palestinian women continue to pay a heavy price for freedom and dignity," the statement read.
Describing Israel's killings of Palestinian women as "brutal," the statement criticized the international community for passivity in the face of such violations.
The office highlighted that Israel's war has displaced over half a million Palestinian women, subjecting them to extreme hardships and depriving them of basic necessities like food and medicine.
According to the statement, approximately 60,000 pregnant women are enduring difficult circumstances due to lack of access to essential healthcare and medical supplies. The office added that hundreds of them "have lost their sons, newborns, or unborn children due to bombing, fear, and 'Israeli' killing."
The statement also addressed the plight of female Palestinian detainees, condemning the physical and psychological torture they endure.
The media office praised the "steadfastness" of Palestinian women, emphasizing their need to defend their rights and life requirements rather than face killing, shooting, detention, displacement, and migration, as it claimed the Israeli occupation army has been doing for over five continuous months.
The office held the United States, the international community, and all relevant international organizations "fully responsible" for the genocide in Gaza and the harsh conditions imposed on Palestinian women there, criticizing both those who participated in the war and those who remained silent on Israeli crimes.
The statement urged "all the countries of the free world and the international community" to work toward ending the 'Israeli' occupation and taking action to save Palestinian women from ongoing Israeli crimes, "including killing, shooting, arresting, humiliating, torturing, and forcing them to leave their homes, cities, and residential areas."
Israel initiated the war on Gaza on October 7, after the Palestinian resistance movement launched a surprise operation against the occupying force in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodshed and devastation against Palestinians.
The Tel Aviv regime has also declared a "complete siege" on the enclave, cutting off electricity, fuel, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians who live there. Since the beginning of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed over 30,000 Palestinians and injured over 72,000 more, with many more missing and assumed dead beneath the rubble in Gaza.
